Standardization refers to the determination of exact concentration of an acid/base.For base, standardization is done by titrating the base against a primary acid solution (i.e an acid solution whose concentration can be accurately measured) of known concentration.

In case of titration of vitamin C , it is very important to know the exact concentration of base being used for titration of vitamin C as this concentration of base will be directly used in determination of concentration of vitamin C. Even minor change in the concentration of the base used will result in different value of concentration of vitamin C, that is incorrect.

So the base must be standardized properly before titration in order to achieve exact concentration value of the vitamin C being titrated.
