How does omitting stearic acid affect the properties and appearance of hand lotion?
We know that hand lotions are generally made up of lipids(ex- fats, alcohol, esters, etc) . Apart from this hand lotion contains ingredients like triethanolamine which helps in balancing the pH levels and stearic acid which soften the skin .
Omitting triethanolamine doesn't affect the appearance of the hand lotion as it will be in its original form whereas it does affect the properties as it can make your skin from not drying out for a longer period of time.
Omitting stearic acid does affect the appearance of the hand lotion as it will form translucent molecules which allows the light to go through it and make the lotion to give a silvery appearance. It also affects the properties of the lotion as it thickens the lotion and is not an emulsifier and also it removes dirt and oil from the skin and brings a cooling effect once applied on the skin.

how does the protein environment surrounding an amino acid chain affect its chemical properties?Consider the carboxyl group on an asparate side chain in the following environments in a protein. Rank in order these environments from the highest to the lowest proportion of carboxyl groups in the -COO- form.that is in terms of pKas. 1. an aspartate side chain on the surface of protein with no other ionizable groups nearby. 2. an aspartate side chain buried in a hydrophobic pocket on...
