Organisms can be beneficial or harmful to humans. For this discussion, you will research the Internet and choose ONE organism from one of the following groups: Protists, Fungi or Viruses that is beneficial or harmful to humans. Do not write about the group organisms in general. You may NOT choose an organism in the Animal Kingdom.

Protists

Harmful: a Most common example of harmful protist is Plasmodium which causes malaria disease.

Beneficial: Carrageenan is a food additive which is produced by red algae.

Fungi

Harmful: Tenia pedis causes ringworm, skin infection in humans.

Beneficial: Agaricus bisporus, which is mushroom used for food

Viruses

Harmful: Cause many diseases. Influenza virus causes common cold in humans.

Beneficial: Orthopoxvirus, which is also known as cowpox, its vaccination can make humans immune against small pox virus.
