Answer #1

Molecules such as water that posses strongly an asymmetric molecule due to distribution of charges and hence said to be polar molecule. The structure mainly consists of one or more electronegative charged atoms. The presence of those gives utmost in determining the reactivity of molecules.

The life supporting properties of water are

1.Each of two covalent bonds in the molecule is highly polarized.

2 All three atoms in a water molecule are adapt at forming hydrogen bonds.

3.Due to its high asymmetric nature with the O atom at one end and two H atoms at opposite end..

Because of extensive bonding of hydrogen ,water molecule adhere to one another providing unusually strong adherence.thus attribute to polarity of water Molecule.

If water is not a polar compound, its ability to dissolve, decreases like wax and fat molecules, that would not been deciding factor for light and life.

C1. Water Water has a number of unique properties that are essential for life. Most of these properties are as a result of the polar nature of water and its ability to form hydrogen bonds. Using your knowledge on the properties of water, answer the questions below. a) Why is it important for water to be a liquid over a broad range of temperatures? [2 marks] b) Why is water referred to as polar and why does its polarity affect...
