Antimicrobial drug resistance is the ability of microbes to grow in the presence of a drug that would normally kill them or limit their growth. Thus methods which may promote antimicrobial drug resistance are-

1. including antimicrobials in animal feed- Ingestion of antibiotics by animals results in the development of resistance in bacteria such as in the E. coli and Salmonella species.

2. Genetic engineering of cows to produce human hormones and other drugs.
