A group of 20 patients is given the medication lipitor for four weeks to reduce their cholesterol levels. The before mean value was 224 with a standard deviation of 15.3. After four weeks the same 20 patients had a mean cholesterol level of 203 with a standard deviation of 12.7. The mean of the difference is 21 with a standard deviation of 6.1. Test the hypothesis that there is no difference versus the alternative hypothesis that Lipitor is reducing the cholesterol levels at the 10% level of significance.

Question 20 1 pts The drug Lipitor is mean to reduce cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. In clinical trials 19 out of 863 patients taking 10 mg of Lipitor daily complained of flulike symptoms. Suppose that it is known that 1.9% of patients taking competing drugs complain of flulike symptoms. The serum cholesterol levels for 20-24 year old males in the US has mean 180 mg/100ml and standard deviation σ = 46 mg/100ml. We are interested in the mean cholesterol level of the larger population of 20-74 old males, say µ. Suppose, we have a random sample of size 25 from the larger population. We want to test the following hypotheses at significance level α = 0.01: H0 : µ = 180, HA : µ > 180 a) What is...

The sample mean and sample standard deviation are found to be 19.5 and 2.5, respectively. (a) Test the hypothesis at α = 0.05. Compute the test statistics, critial regions, and perform the test. Is there a relationship between confidence intervals and two-tailed hypothesis tests? Let c be the level of confidence used to construct a confidence interval from sample data. Let α be the level of significance for a two-tailed hypothesis test. The following statement applies to hypothesis tests of the mean. For a two-tailed hypothesis test with level of significance α and null hypothesis H0: μ = k, we reject H0 whenever k falls outside the c = 1 − α confidence...
