What was one of your earliest experiences concerning race? a. Describe the experience, how you felt, and how the experience was handled. b. If you could rewrite that experience, how would you change it and/ or how it was handled?
1st part:
The earliest experience of race was completely pathetic and not acceptable under any circumstances. The incident took place in the HR department were few members have badly harassed a woman of different biological traits in terms of skin color.
2nd part:
a. Describe:
The experience was not at all acceptable as the woman has been harassed badly by the team of some HR professionals of the organization for dark skin color. As a job seeker she has come for the purpose of the interview but as her skin color was dark, the HR person present in the interview session has badly mistreated her by means of wrongful words. In spite of having talent and zeal to work in the job role, she has not been given the opportunity to do the job.
Felt:
It was a shameful act that cannot be tolerated and as the employee of the organization, it really feels bad that such a big organization is still differentiating the talents based on race. It has been heard that the woman has the strongest potential in her field and also has relevant experiences. The HR professionals had not focused on those areas and instead of recruiting her, they have badly insulted for her skin color.
Handled:
The woman come for the interview was very professional and upfront speaker; she has immediately contacted the higher authority of the organization and informed the matter in detail. The other existing female employees along with the male staffs have supported the women. The higher authority has escalated the matter within a day and the HR professionals who were responsible for the act has been fired out from the organization. The woman has given the opportunity to work in the organization by the management and a rule has been designed to follow the equal opportunity clause for everyone.
3rd part:
b. Rewrite
The experience was not at all feasible as per any organization is the concern it is required to follow equal opportunity rule in the workplace. The main fact is that being the HR department, the rule maker has forgotten to maintain the rules in the organization. The woman has been called for the purpose of the interview and the HR professionals had badly insulted her because of different physical orientations.
Change:
The change can only be possible if the organization management enforces strict policies for giving equal opportunities to all and mandate that no differentiation with respect to race or anything should take place in the organization. Implementing policies also required to monitor the process of the utilization by the management so that it can be ensured that it is being followed.
Another aspect is to raise voice by the victim, as in this incident the woman has raised her voice to the organizations higher authority for the purpose of harassment. This has forced the organization to enforce equal opportunity to all and this move by the woman has created an excellent change in the organization policy that will also benefit others.
Handled:
It was handled very tactfully as the woman has shown a sign of excellent courage to inform the management of the organization that she has been badly harassed by the HR professional for skin color. The situation has become chaotic that all other women and men communities have stood with the woman that backfire the HR department to get support from the organization. The HR professional responsible for the act has not been considered on employment with the organization. The top manager immediately handles the situation and without delay, the matter has been escalated within a day and the woman has given the opportunity to work with pride in the organization.
