Define and describe creativity (in your own words). Why is it so valued and popular now? Can it be managed (controlled/promoted/encouraged)?

Creativity refers to thinking up new things and is considered as most valued trait for leader because this will make the leader to take personal responsibility at work, focus on performance as well as take risk, creating high performance work teams, etc. Open mindedness of individuals will result in creative thinking.

Creativity is important for the survival and success of a business because: -

• It helps in improving the quality of products and/or services.
• Increase value of the firm.
• It helps in better achieving the objectives and goals of the organization.
• It result in creating effective workforce who contribute towards meeting the goal of business by working collaboratively.
• Also, company can grab more market share by attracting more number of customers through innovation.
• Innovation make businesses to come up with changes and adapt to these effectively in order to make products or services that can fulfill the current needs of the customers.

Creative behavior can be managed by: -

• Focus on creating a positive work environment
• Guiding the behavior which is essential in being more focused.
• Working collaboratively and sharing best practices.
• Understanding the responsibilities and taking inputs from others before making any decision.
• Working as per organizational value which can make individual working efficiently and effectively.
• Participating in training and development programs to enhance the skills in order to be more creative.
• Focusing on job enrichment and job enlargement to improve the skills and knowledge.
• Maintaining effective working style by gathering, organizing and evaluating information. People give innovative ideas and have risk-taking ability.
• To be flexible and adaptable to the changing condition of business so that individual can work efficiently and effectively in challenging work environment.
• Focusing on continuous learning so that individual can gain knowledge and experience.
