Question

The kidney play an important role in the regulation of blood pH which is 7.35 to 7.45. The physiology of kidney help in the regulation of blood pH by excreting excess acid and base. The kidney maintain blood pH homeostatis by excreting hydrogen ion present in the blood and reabsorbing biacrbonate from urine.

When the blood pH is low or H+ is high, kidney reabsorb more bicarbonate from the filterate . On the other hand, when blood pH is high, kidney excrete more bicarbonate ion in the urine and therefore more ammonium(NH3) is excreted. Therefore, the kidney maintain normal ph of blood by excreting excess H+ into urine and reabsorbing bicarbonate from urine.
