Quebec is a a city in Canada. It has French language's dominance. It was a French colony in 16th century. Later on it became a part of British empire in 18th century. Now it is a part of Canada. Mostly people in this region speak French language.
It is placed in North America but it is full of European culture. Sole official language in this region is French. 80 percent of the population of Quebec belong to French origin. In Quebec city, there is a law which ensures that the person living in this region will be communicated from government officials in French language only.
Official language act of Quebec came into existence in the year 1974. It made the French as the sole official language of this region. French had dominance in this region since a long time. French people fought seven fights/battles before taking over of this region by British officials in 18th century.
Various serious efforts were done along with effective law construction in order to protect French culture and language. Bill 101 ensures that French will remain the official language of Quebec. Two types of French languages are being spoken in this city.
One is known as Quebecious French which is being spoken by 80 percent of people and another type is Acadian French; which is being spoken by only 35000 people of this region. People try to accommodate their accent to make it understandable to other people.
In this whole process the French language of this region seems to be different from original French language. All these are the reasons that language has become an important aspect of national identity of Quebec.
