Answer #1

DCCT

Diabetes control and Complications Trial. This landmark trial showed the importance of intensive glucose in controlling Blood glucose and reducing the complications in type 1 diabetes.

The intensively managed patients maintained average blood glucose levels at 150 mg/dl.Better yet, maintaining an HbA1C value at 7% reduces the risk of long-term complications of eye, nerve and kidney by approximately 6%.

After DCCT results, The ADA recommended that, Type 1 DM patients should not use sucrose, DCCT is mainly used to assess glucose control regime among patients with type 1.For patients with type 1 have only option to regulate their blood glucose level by insulin therapy, at the same time patients with type 2 have much options like weight loss, dietary modigications, OHA and inslin therapy is often required. So type 1 patients may abstain from sucrose consumption.
