There are different factors such as genetic inheritance, parental abuse, social interaction, social inequality etc. that contribute to addiction. So, it wouldn’t be wise to categorize everyone with a single reason or factor. This would mean that people would have been affected by one of the factors thus, one theory wouldn’t be adequate to explain the reason for addiction. I find learning theory to be more relevant because people learn things from their environment thus, adopting the behaviors either voluntarily or forced by someone. Youngsters especially, learn smoking, drinking and drug use from their friends and over a period of time would become addicted to it. Although social factors such as poverty, unemployment, high level of stress, physical illnesses etc contribute to addiction, people learn some unhealthy behaviors to cope with them and thus end up in addiction.

Intelligent design theory is an argument used by some people to challenge the teaching of evolution in public schools. One of the supporters of this idea claims that certain biological structures, such as the bacterial flagellum, require so many complex parts working together in perfect synchronization that it is not possible that they could have evolved from simpler structures. This argument states that a simpler structure could not perform the same function, which is evidence of “irreducible complexity.” This is...
