Bacteria and archaea are both prokaryotes. But Carl Woese proposed that archaea are closer to eukaryotes. What’s the evidence for his theory?
The evidences which support that archaea are more close to eukaryotes are as follows:
1. The enzymes involved in transcription and translation are similar in eukaryotes and archaea.
2. The method of DNA replication is similar in both.
3. The initiator tRNA is methionine in both the cases.
4. The promoter of structural genes is TATA box in both domains.
5. The cell wall found in both domains is devoid of peptidoglycan.
6. The DNA is associated with histone proteins in both the cases.
7. The RNA polymerase found in both are many in number.
Hope it helps, Good luck !!!!

Prokaryotes appeared long before Eukaryotes and continue to be the most abundant life form. Prokaryotes are extremely diverse, their diversity is in the result of their metabolic adaptations and their ability to rapidly change their genetic information A) Explain at least 3 metabolic adaptations of prokaryotes, and B) Compare the three ways in which bacteria exchange genetic information. C) Archaea we thought to be ancestral to bacteria. However, now they are closer to eukaryotes, what evidence supports their new placement...
Which of the following statements is not true regarding the differences between bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes? a) Flagella are found on bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes yet they all vary in b Bacteria and archaea have circular chromosomes in a nucleoid region ) The cell walls of bacteria and archaea both contain the complex d) Ribosomal RNA sequencing revealed that the structure of the ribosomal structure whereas eukaryotes have linear chromosomes that are enclosed in a nuclear membrane macromolecule peptidoglycan, whereas...
Combine, into one tree, the phylogeny given in class for the Bacteria and Archaea and Eukaryotes with the phylogeny given for Eukaryotes. (i.e. make one tree that relates: Cyanobacteria, Chloroplasts, Rhizobium, Mitochondria, E. coli, Lokiarchaeota, TACK, Euryarchaeota, SAR, Red Algae, Green algae and Plants, Fungi, and Metazoans.) SAR Cilliates, Diatoms Brown Algae, etc. -Red Algae Plants + Green Algae Fungi Metazoans (Animals) – Eukaryotes Modern Cyanobacteria Lokiarchaeota Euryarchaeota Chloroplasts - TACK Archaea Rhizobium - Mitochondria - E.coli
Bacteria and Archaea can use all 6 feeding strategies, but Eukaryotes can only use _ and _ feeding strategies.
Transcriptional control of gene regulation is common in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Which of the following is not true? Both prokaryotes and eukaryotes: A. exhibit both positive and negative control. B. have repressors that impact expression. C. often requires interactions with DNA that is not proximal to structural genes. D. have genes that are closely related in function located proximally on a chromosome
Contrast replication of leading and lagging strands in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

Coordinate regulation of gene expression is important both in bacteria and eukaryotes. Operons are used to co-ordinate gene expression in bacteria but NOT eukaryotes. Explain why operons strategy does not work in eukaryotes.
