The PPACA sets a premium standard that all people of the same age and sex will pay. But what about people who smoke, do not exercise, or have other unhealthy habits. They will be paying the same premium as health-conscious people of the same age and sex. Should people who smoke pay a different premium than nonsmokers? What about those that do not eat healthily, or those that are overweight? Should they have to pay a different premium?

Answer #1

There are both for and against opinion regarding Insurance premium for smokers. some people thinks that increased insurance premiums for smokers may help them quit their smoking habits. While others think that it might not be a reason to stop their smoking, instead of that it will become a burden for them and they might skip the premium charges. In my opinion smoking is a bad habit and it can badly affect the health. Smokers has to pay more for their medical care than non smokers. In order to afford the hospital bill they should take insurance policy. Increased premium charges might help the smokers to rethink about their health conditions and habits.

Obese people are more pron to get disease. They need more consideration and care. The cost for bariatric surgery and other procedures are high. Always insurance companies look for pre existing medical conditions. Obese people have high BMI and need more hospital visits for the co minorities. So they have to pay more premium charges to get financial support for multiple hospitalizations. It also help them to follow health diet plan and exercise in order to maintain healthy body.
