Why is Personal Safety so important as college students? Using the topics within the chapter such as Texting while Driving(or any others mentioned in the chapter), what type of initiatives would you start on campus as the University Safety and Health Officer to encourage student awareness?

Crime is occuring each and every time or seconds anywhere on campus,apartments,residence hall,car,while walking etc.We can't avoid the crime to a clear level or zero level.The best way is to be safe from crime by knowing the safety tips to keep ourself safe and if posiible to safe others from crime.If know some tips to be safe from crime we can improve our self-esteem,and decrease the stress level.

College students are very vulnerable to be a victim of crime anywhere from the campus may be from the peers,from the staff of the college or from the lecturers and during shopping.If no history of the crime has not been taken place also we have to be very conscious or aware regarding our surroundings and peoples.We are not having any guarantee ragarding the violence or crime, whenever or wherever it may happens.

Some times we will think a sense of security from our peers and other teaching and non-teaching workers.But one of the fact is that we are not having any guarantee regarding a persons character or behaviour and how much we have to trust on them.But what is happening several falls as a victim of crime in the campus itself.

Thus we can say that Personal safety is very important for the college students.

Initiatives to improve the awareness of students:

As a university safety and healthy officer :

*Prepare and issue a circular to every college regarding the importance of personal safety of college students and its guidelines and importance of start up a self defense class in the campus

The guidelines includes:

*Create an anti-ragging committe with a student leader and staff co-ordinator and submit the monthly reports of their activities to the college management

To students:

*Aware of surroundings

*Be stay in the areas that knows well

*During the shopping times don't be alone,be with friends

*Never talk with the strangers

*Always keep emergency numbers with you

*Share the activity schedules to a network of close friends

*Enrolling in self defence class that should be conducted in the campus to protect themselves

*Make sure regarding all the exits in the campus

*During night walks in the campus use the best lighted route and try not to walk alone

*In case if someone is being a victim of a crime notify it immediately to the Campus police
