The patient protection and affordable care act is a comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010 is also called as PPACA or obama care.PPACA is called as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The 3 main goals of ACA is :
*Make affordable health insurance available to more people
*Expand the Medicaid program to cover all adults with income below 138% of federal poverty level
*Support innovative medical care delivery methods designed to lower the costs of health care generally,
Under former president Barrack Obama,more than 20 million previously uninsured Americans gained health care coverage.
When congress passed Obama's bill in 2010,it succeeded by a hair and not a single Reublician supported it,
Obama care instituted tax incentives,mandatory coverage requirements and financial assistance for millions.
But it never called into a question the system's private foundations.
Americans can access to health health coverage throughout their lives ,and the federal government has an array of tools to bring the rise of health care costs control
But the work toward the high quality,affordable ,accessible health care system is not over
The US even though it spends the most the lower the performance
The main reasons for the poor outcomes is due to :
*Lack of insurance coverage:The main reason is due to inequality in the health care and coverage.The health care and the health insurance are not equivalent.The incidence shows that 27 million people in the US were uninsured in 2016.
It is because they can't afford the coverage ,live in the state that didn't expand Medicaid,
Worst Outcomes:
*Administrative insufficiency
In US lot of money is wasting for administrative purpose.The doctors and nurses are wasting time on billing and insurance claims
The insurance coverage is not ideal that different insurance plans covers different treatments and procedures,forcing doctors to spend more time coordinating with insurance companies to provide care instead of providing high quality care to their clients
*Under performing primary care
There is a very dis-organized,fragmented,insufficient and under resourced primary care system.Many primary care physicians struggle to receive relevant clinical information from the specialists and hospitals,complicating efforts to provide seamless coordinated care
There is a lack of investment in primary care and social services which are important determinants of the health
Things like home visiting,better housing and subsidized healthy food could extend the work of doctors and do a lot to improve chronic disease outcomes.
