Q: In your dream, you’re floating on a raft in the middle of the ocean. The sun’s hot, you’re very thirsty, and you’re surrounded by water. You want to take a long, cool drink of seawater, but something you learned in Anatomy & Physiology stops you from drinking and saves your life! Why shouldn’t you drink seawater? ( a minimum of 150 words and above)
Answer: Human body can consumes very low amount of salt. The normal amount of salt consumption can be taken in food to fulfill the need of iodide. But the sea water contains excess amount of salt. The sea water contains just more than the double amount of salt. When we drink water, the salt that present gets in to cells and tissues.
Kidney performs it function as it filters the waste products as well as excess amount of salt. The kidney can filter the urine that is low in salt or less salty. So, if we drink water that is high in salt content such as if we drink sea water or ocean water, then the kidney has to perform more hard work to get rid of excess of salt. This will cause excess urination and hence cause dehydration. The intensive dehydration results in to death of the person.
