1) Understand the need of the customer (without knowing what the customer wants you can't make sustainable sales)

2) Understand your product or service (without knowing the features and technical know-how of the offering the sales person won't be able to sell effectively)

3)Effective time management - sales person has numerous sales visits and customers. So effective planning is required

Dont's:

1)Too much talking - this could annoy the customer and will impair the relationship with customer

2) Lower confidence - this could impair the message the salesman is trying to convey and will portray negatively to customer

3) Too eager for cross sell or upsell - if salesman is trying to sell too many products or services at one time the customer may become defensive
