Handling a Sterile Syringe Needle Unit (Procedure 12-1)
1) Instillation of ear drops is the delivery of a prescribed ear drop in the appropriate ear.
Procedures and instructions in Performing Ear Instillation:-
- Pull the outer lobe of the ear backwards and upwards.Hold the medicine dropper just above the entrance of ear canal.
- Squeeze out the prescribed number of drops in the affected ear.
- Release the ear and request the patient to remain still for 1-2 minutes.
- When the patient sits up, wipe away any excess medicine that may drip out of the ear with a clear tissue. Don't put cotton wool in the ear.
- Recap the bottle without touching the tip of the bottle
- Store ear store as instructed in the PIL or on bottle.
2) Handling a Sterile Syringe Needle Unit:-
- Hold the syringe in the hand without touching the shaft,bevel,adaptor of the needle,adaptor of the syringe plunger seal of the syringe and may touch the barrel & plunger top of the syringe to prevent from contamination.
- The health worker can dispose of used needles into the safety box .
