Witmer established a strong link between clinical psychology and scientific psychology. Later, at a conference sponsored by APA (American Psychological Association), he stated the need of training on clinical psychology.
Boulder model created by APA stressed that a doctorate degree should be earned to get a hands on experience on research methodology. Students though questioned on the need of such degree.
Later, Crane argued for designing a special course for psychological studies for applied psychologists. However, the response generated towards his suggestion was imperceptible. He suggested degree of Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
As per his suggestion, University of Illinois was the first to initiate this program. Still issues concerning this program and institutions to be set for the same had to be taken into account. Finally, in a conference, several decisions were made recognizing this degree course.
