Figure shows a composite beam made by adding a channel to an American Standard beamshape. Both are made from ASTM A36 structural steel. If the beam is simply supported and carries a uniformly distributed load over a span of 15.0 ft compute the allowable load for the composite beam and for the S-shape by itself. The load is static and the A1SC specification for design stress is to be used.
