To empty the trash in Mac OS X:

1. Click the Trash icon on the Dock to view its contents.

2. Make sure that there are no files you want to salvage from the trash. If there are items you want to salvage, drag them out of the trash and into the appropriate folder or folders.

3. Open the Finder menu.

4. Select Empty Trash as in Figure 11-18.

5. Click OK (in Leopard) or Empty Trash (in Snow Leopard).
