This project enables you to use the Disk Cleanup tool in Windows XP/Vista/7 to delete temporary Internet files and temporary files created by applications. You need Administrator privileges for this project.

To use the Disk Cleanup tool:

1. Close all active windows and programs.

2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to or click Accessories, point to or click System Tools, and click Disk Cleanup.

3. If you see the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box (such as in Windows Vista), click Files from all users on this computer. If necessary, select the drive to clean up if there is more than one, such as drive (C), and click OK. It may take a few minutes for the Disk Cleanup tool to scan the disk.

4. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, if you see more than one tab, make sure the Disk Cleanup tab appears.

5. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, what types of files can be deleted (see Figure 11-15)?

6. Check the boxes for Temporary Internet Files and Temporary files. Remove checks from any other boxes. Click OK.

7. Click Yes (in Windows XP) or Delete Files (in Windows Vista/7) to verify that you want to delete the files.
