In this project, you learn from where to configure virtual memory in Windows XP/Vista/7, Server 2003/Server 2003 R2, and Server 2008/Server 2008 R2. To view from where to configure virtual memory in Windows XP and Server 2003/Server 2003 R2:

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.

2. Ensure that Classic View is displayed and double-click System.

3. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

4. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under the Performance section.

5. Click the Advanced tab in the Performance Options dialog box.

6. Under Virtual Memory, click the Change button.

7. Notice the initial and maximum sizes set for virtual memory and record them. Click Cancel to close the Virtual Memory dialog box.

8. Click Cancel in the Performance Options dialog box and click Cancel in the System Properties dialog box.

9. Close Control Panel.

To view where to configure virtual memory in Windows Vista/7 and Server 2008/Server 2008 R2:

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.

2. In Windows Vista or Server 2008, click Classic View, if necessary. In Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2, set View by to Large icons or Small icons.

3. Click System in Control Panel.

4. Click Advanced system settings in the left pane.

5. On the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box, click Settings under the Performance section.

6. Click the Advanced tab in the Performance Options dialog box.

7. Under Virtual Memory, click the Change button.

8. Notice the initial and maximum sizes set for virtual memory and record them (see Figure 11-25). (If the box for Automatically manage paging file size for all drives is checked and you do not see values for Custom size, uncheck the box for Automatically manage paging file size and then select the option button for Custom size.) Click Cancel to close the Virtual Memory dialog box.

9. Click Cancel in the Performance Options dialog box and click Cancel in the System Properties dialog box.

10. Close Control Panel.
