In this project, you learn how to access the Windows tools for properly uninstalling an application in Windows XP/Vista/7, Server 2003/Server 2003 R2, or Server 2008/Server 2008 R2. This includes the Add or Remove Programs tool in Windows XP and Server 2003/Server 2003 R2 and the Programs and Features tool in Windows Vista/7 and Server 2008/ Server 2008 R2.

To access the Add or Remove Programs tool in Windows XP or Server 2003/Server 2003 R2:

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.

2. If you are not in the Classic View, click Switch to Classic View.

3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. Wait a few moments for all of the programs to be listed.

4. Notice that to add a new program, you would click in the left pane, Add New Programs, and load the medium from which to install the program. Or to uninstall a program, you would click the program in the list of programs and then click Change or Remove Programs in the left pane (see Figure 11-22).

5. Close the Add or Remove Programs window and close Control Panel.

To access the Programs and Features tool in Windows Vista/7 or Server 2008/Server 2008 R2:

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.

2. In Windows Vista or Server 2008, click Classic View, if necessary. In Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2, set View by to Large icons or Small icons.

3. Click Programs and Features. Wait a few moments for all of the programs to be listed.

4. Notice that the Programs and Features window offers the ability to Uninstall, Change, or Repair programs, depending on the program. Click a program in the list (see Figure 11-23). Notice that the option bar just above the list of programs displays the options available for that program (depending on the operating system), which may be any of Uninstall, Uninstall/Change, Change, or Repair.

5. Click three or four other programs to view the options that appear for them. 11
