In Fedora 13 Linux with the GNOME desktop, you can configure devices using the Preferences menu. The Preferences menu enables you to configure Bluetooth devices, desktop effects, file management settings, the keyboard, monitor, mouse, and other devices and settings. In this project, you use the Preferences menu to learn from where to configure one or more monitors connected to the computer. You next use the menu to learn from where to configure a mouse. To use the Preferences menu:
1. Click System and point to Preferences. Notice the many devices and settings that can be configured. What would you click to manage power settings? What option enables you to configure audio devices?
2. With the Preferences menu open, click Monitors.
3. For a specific monitor, notice that you can configure settings for Resolution, Refresh rate, and Rotation. How can you detect an additional monitor that you have connected?
4. Click Close in the Monitor Preferences dialog box.
5. Click System, point to Preferences, and click Mouse.
6. Make sure the General tab is displayed (see Figure 6-21).
7. Review the options you can set for the mouse, such as for right- or left-handed use.
8. Click Close to close the Mouse Preferences dialog box.
