(5x)(Vi ml) = (1x)(500 ml)

Vi = 100 ml

so

intial volume is 100 ml , final volume is 500 ml

amount of solvent needed = 500 ml - 100 ml = 400 ml

so the steps of preparation are

a) take 100 ml of 5X stock solution
