Description of biopsy
it is the procedure to remove a sample of tissue from concerned diseased organ either by needle or surgicaly to examine that tissue microscopically.
Indications:
Nursing interventions
Fpre procedure: check the availability of articles required in procedure.
Identify the right patient
ensure the sterility of equipments
ensure the preoperative instructions like fasting or certain medication and body preparation , informed consent
itraoperative
maintain the privacy of patients
provide proper position
maintain proper sterility and wear personal protective equipment while assisting the procedure
keep record of gauze or sponge being used
postop
Check vitals
ensure proper level of consciousness
discarge teachings should be provided
interpretation of findings
Biopsy findings are interpreted by pathologist in the form whether there is cancer or not
if cancer is there, then whether benign or malignant
in malignancy, which stage of tumor is there
whether the donor and recipients are compatible for organ transplantation
after transplantation, whether the organ is working properly or rejected
patient education
Make patient aware of the purpose of the procedure.
aware the patient about the procedure how that will be done
clear patients’ queries
tell atient regarding medication to take and avoid
tell patient about complications
tell paient that bandage if applied will b removed after one day and he can take bath aftrwards
