While communicating with the person or people with disability, it is very important to remember to treat the person as an individual and also treat him or her the way you want to be treated.

7.1 Answer

Strategies that can be implemented to enhance expressive communication are

1. USE NORMAL VOICE TONE______ don't raise your voice or the pitch of your tone , unless it is asked to do so.

2. DONT PRETEND THAT YOU UNDERSTAND______ tell the individual that you are unable to understand and also assist him in making you understand in different ways, try asking yes or no.

3. SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE PERSON RATHER THAN THE PERSON WITH HIM OR HER.

4.BE POLITE AND PATIENT_____ Do not try to run the conversation.

7.2 Answer

Role of nurse in health care setting

1. Emotional situation of the patient has to be emphasized

People with disabilities in hospital is characterised by communication barrier between patient and healthcare provider,

The hospital environment itself is foreign to the patient and family of patient , they suffer from fear or uncertainty,the care of nurses towards patient and family regarding continuity of care , time , professional competence and attitude towards patient and family has to be emphasized by the nurse.

2. Improve abilities of disabled patients in the hospital setting

Clinical nurse specialist are familiar with the problem and she knows how to calm the patient and his family , family members should also be involved in the care during hospital stay to reduce anxiety & bring calmness into both patient as well as his family members.
