The Equal Employment Opportunity law has been a major reform in the United States Social and economic sphere. In the backdrop of some of major discrimination reports all around the country , the Government of United States had to enact the law of Equal Employment Opportunity and there is the Protected Class under the Equal Employment Opportunity lay which states that no individual in the United States can be discriminated on the basis of his or her Color , Race , National Origin , Religion or creed, age ( above 40 years) , Sex, being veteran or his or her physical or mental disability. This law and its protected group help to promote equality in the society and ensures that this social evil of discrimination is done away with.

During the 1940’s to 1960’s, the United States saw a major increase in industrialization and a huge number of jobs were created in the market. However, some section of the employer society was not comfortable giving the jobs to the people who were black. There were even many protests noticed against giving certain social privileges to the black colored community people. There was a belief that these people were ancestrally not from the United States and were slowly increasing at such level that they would take away the means of livelihood for those people who originally belonged to the United States. This led to huge discrimination with the people based on their color. This evil of discrimination spread far and wide in to every corner of the country. Finally, the Government had to intervene and enact the law of Equal Employment opportunity to prevent the society being engulfed under this evil. The Government had to realize that the people who were of different color orientation were not a burden on the economy of the country, rather they contribute even more than the others in the economic development of the nation. They constituted a major portion of the country’s labor force and were skilled labor. Thus, they were crating profit for the economy. Thus, discriminating against them would be unjustifiable. The Law of Equal Employment opportunity gives this equal status of the people of any color to get equal opportunity to employ himself or herself in any employment in the country if he/ she is eligible for the desirable position.

Another major discrimination which was relevant in the society was the discrimination against the women. It had been since the very beginning that women were not treated equal to men. They were always deprived of key decision-making bodies even in the older days. This trend gave birth to a major discrimination in the modern employment market. Many firms were not ready employ female employees, even when they were totally fit for the desired role. The Equal opportunity lay and the protected groups in it, made it legally bound that no firm can now discriminate against the women, and if a female is eligible for employment.

Similarly, there was also a prevalent of a huge discrimination against the people of a certain age. It was lately observed that the organization or even smaller firms, only wanted to employ young people and hesitated to employ an individual who was not totally young. This led to many of the people above 40 to face dire economic consequences and as they had no means to earning money. In the protected group, it was specified that individuals above the age of 40 cannot be discriminated only based on their age. Hence, this law brought about a huge discriminating trend to an end, thus ensuring that every individual irrespective of his/ her is getting equal employment benefits.
