He has a hx of hypertension (HTN), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), b12 deficiency, and chronic prostatitis. He currently takes Lisinopril 10mg QD, Prilosec 20mg QD, B12 injections monthly, and Cipro 100mg QD. He comes to you for an annual exam and states “I came for my annual physical exam, but do not want to be a burden to my daughter." Answer: The patient is suffering from low socioeconomic status. This reduces the intake of proper nutrition and food. The patient is suffering from from GERD. The deficiency of nutrients causes various disease and disorder and hence increases the risk of chronic disease. Patient is having poor lifestyle as there is no indulgence if physical activities. The issues that would need to be sensitive to when interacting with the patient such as showing empathy, not having eye contact etc. May have influence on the patient.

The question that need to be asked are:

  • Eating habits and functional behavior of the patient
  • Prepartion of food
  • How they manage the Vitamin intake?
  • How patient maintain personal hygiene.?
  • Is there any kind of fasting they do?
