What are the differences between type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes

• dont produce insulin
• symptoms are frequent urination, thirst and hunger,fatigue ,blurry vision. In addition to these type 1 have irritability and mood changes, weight loss.
• symptoms of type 1 develop faster
• develops in childhood or adolescence.
• body's immune system mistakes body's own healthy cells for foreign invaders.Thus it attacks pancreas and destroys insulin producing beta cells in pancreas. After these beta cells are destroyed body reproduce insulin.
• genetic or environmental factors contribute to attack of beta cells.
• less common
• risk factors are family history being positive, young age, presence of some genes
• can't be prevented
• diagnosed by HbA1C, FBS and other blood test and urine analysis
• no cure for type 1 diabetes. only insulin administration is there to control sugar level and also diet control.

Type 2 diabetes

• dont respond to insulin produced in body
• symptoms same as type 1 .in addition to that numbness and tingling sensation in hands or feet
• asymptomatic for many years
• occurs more in aged
• this type of diabetes have insulin resistance. Body produce insulin but unable to use effectively.
• lifestyle factors contribute
• more common
• risk factors are obese, family history, over age 45, physically inactive, had gestational diabetes, PCOD, lot of body fat
• can be prevented by maintaining healthy weight, regular exercise, proper diet,
• it can be controlled and managed to a considerable level by lifestyle changes, medication, diet ,exercise.
