According to WHO, health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behaviour towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions.(WHO,2001) .Health promotion simply refers to activities that lead towards wellness and health.Examples are promotion of breast feeding, nutrition , oral health surveillance, road safety measures.

Health maintenance is a process by which preventing illness and promoting health is enhanced for maintenance of health .In simple terms a process of preserving health. Example immunisation .

Health restoration is a process to repair the illness and safely re establish the health . Examples of the health restoration activity is dental replacement .

Health rehabilitation is retaining the health after any illness. Examples are  helping a car accident victim regain use of her legs.

Nursing is an important and crucial factor in determining effectiveness of healthcare.A detailed history of the patient is collected by a nurse in effective manner in each and every action.Examples are the parent-child interaction in the waiting room and throughout the examination, whether siblings are present, watching for interactions among all family members, observes the behaviour of the child and family.Nursing assessment of the child and family at each visit for health supervision includes collection of updated health history, asks about the child’s developmental or educational progress, and for knowing dietary habits, physical activity, and safety practices. Nurse also questions and concerns about the parent or child may and conducts surveillance assessments, including review of questionnaires completed by the parent in the waiting room and performs age-appropriate screening tests and performs a physical assessment. She does this for adult also whenever necessary . She coolects data then plans accordingly to restore health and prevent illness .Thus nursing process is very necessary and important tool .
