Answer #1

The postmortem potassium level in the eye increases significantly. This is mainly because of the autolysis that happens in the retinal cells and vascular choroids of the eye. Increase in the potassium level in the eye is used to find the time of death for the person. It is found by plotting the values of potassium in mequiv/litre against the post-mortem intervals (in hours).

The postmortem stomach contents can tell the time of death for a person. It has been stated that a meal is completely digested after six hours of eating. However, the process of digestion varies from person to person. If the stomach is found with food during autopsy then the death is assumed to be near about the meal and if the stomach does not have any food then the time of death is assumed to be more than 12 hours.
