ANSWER.

Diverticulosis.

    It is an abnormal formation of sac like herniations on the lining of bowel

    mainly due to low intake of dietary fiber.

    Retention of food and microorganisms in the diverticulum results in infections

    and inflammation of bowel and leads to abscesses or perforation of bowel wall.

Challenges that impact the person living with diverticulosis.

     Patient with diverticulosis will develop

         * Abdominal distention.

       * Loss of appetite.

         * Weakness or fatigue to do daily activities.

         * Abdominal cramps.

         * Irregularities in the bowel like diarrhea and constipation.

Nursing interventions can support this person to live better with the disease.

     * Promote to do an exercise program to improve abdominal muscle tone.

     * Encourage intake of high fiber content and soft foods to maintain normal

        bowel function.

     * Administration of oil retention enema to relieve constipation associate with

       diverticulosis.
