Your resume is ready to go, your cover letter is written now what? The next step to launching your career is to understand what the job market looks like in your area.

'Job market' is a general term that refers to the employers, job opportunities and other candidates in your desired geographic area. In most areas, the internet has replaced the local paper as the place to go to find out what the job market looks like near you.

There are two ways to use the internet to assist you passively and actively. Passive searching refers to posting your profile on job sites like Monster and Career Builder and waiting for employers to find you. Although it may be helpful, this approach is slow and may not be the most effective for individuals who are launching a new career.

Active searching refers to using internet job sites and search engines to identify recently-posted job opportunities that match your requirements and then submitting your resume for consideration this is the approach that this assignment will introduce you to.
