The most basic activity in our life is the ability to communicate.
for effective communication proper understanding of messages is
important. alternative communication when people have visual,
auditory and cognitive impairment and any other illness to be an
easy communication method sign language, pointing, crying,
gestures, using symbols to pass messages will be helpful. This
method helps others to understand better when people can not
adequately communicate.
Underlying principles:
To exchange messages to others always it should be clearly
understand by others. It can be written, verbal and nonverbal. It
shares our idea, feeling, and information. there are different
nonverbal communication like signals, writing, speech as a
professional that should share the information with people
accurately. An alternative method of communication helps people who
are disabled can be a non-speaking option like picture exchange or
communication, sign language, augmentative devices, written or
typed method and letter board communication.
Nursing interventions:
-Understand people's needs and provide nonverbal cues.
-Provide alternative ways for communication objects.
-Provide flashcards, electronic messages to express ideas
-Avoid external distractions like Tv, radio, and phone when making
communication
-Maintain eye contact and provide time to respond.
-Avoid patient getting frustrated
-Use short communication words and speak slowly
-Use finger movement for yes or no questions
