The production manager at Sunny Soda, Inc. is interested in tracking the quality of the company’s 12-ounce bottle filling line. The bottles must be filled within the tolerances set for this product because the dietary information on the label shows 12 ounces as the serving size. The design standard for the product calls for a fill level of 12.00 ± 0.10 ounces (11.90 to 12.10 ounces). The manager collected the following sample data (in fluid ounces per bottle) on the production process:

a.
We will use Excel and input all 60 samples in the first column A as shown below.
Bin is added from cell C3 to C15 starting 11.88 till 12.12.
Click on Data -> Data Analysis and select Histogram.
We select input range and bin as shown to create the histogram.
b.
Looking at output of histogram, we can see in the table with Bin and Frequency and assess whether the process is meeting the specification or not.
The specification limit of 12.00 +/- 0.10 shows that lower specification are 12.00 - 0.10 = 11.90 and higher specification are 12.00 + 0.10 = 12.10.
We can see that there is one value in bin 11.90 i.e. one value between 11.88 to 11.90. Also there are 4 values between 12.10 to 12.12 and 1 value between 12.12 and above.
So, there are multiple values outside the lower and higher specification limit hence the process is not meeting the specification.
If you like my answer , please give thumbs up. Thank you.
