This can be calculated using the formula

V1C1 = V2C2

Where

V1 = Stock volume to be used for dilution = X

C1 = Initial concentration = 3x10^5

V2 = Final volume = 1 ml

C2 = Final concentration = 2x10^4

In the given problem we have to find out the stock volume i.e., V1

So, we shall use the following formula

V1C1 = V2C2

V1 = (V2C2) / C1

V1 = (1 x 2x10^4) / 3x10^5

V1 = 0.66 x 10-1

V1 = 0.066

So, you have to take 0.066 ml of culture which gave 3x10^5 cells/ml and add 0.934 ml of distilled water. This will give cells approximately equal to 2x10^4 cells/mL.
