A(n) ___?___ cell, which has the F plasmid incorporated into the bacterial genome, can only conjugate with ___?____

cells. If the plasmid recircularizes, carrying some of the bacterial DNA with it, the cell is now considered to be ___?____.

2) If conjugation occurs between the two cells below, what will be the genotype of the exconjugant cell?

Answer #1

1)

A F+ cell contains F plasmid incorporated into bacterial genome can only conjugate with F- cell to donate the plasmid. The plasmid recircularizes carrying bacterial DNA with in it is called HFR (high frequency recombinant) cell.

2) Conjugation is a process of genetic exchange between F+ and F- cells. The F+ cell is a donor and F- cell is a recepient that receives plasmid. Conjugation between F+ lac+ and F- lac- results in F+ cell donating a copy of F plasmid to F- cell. Therefore genotype of exconjugant cell would also be F+ lac- . Option b is correct.

Please classify each statement as describing transformation, conjugation, or transduction in bacteria. Bacteria can acquire plasmids from outside the cell. A bacterium that contains an F plasmid connects to a recipient bacterium that lacks an F plasmid with an appendage called a pilus, through which the plasmid is transferred. Some bacterial DNA fragments may be included when new phage particles are assembled. A cell can be treated to make it competent to take up DNA from its environment. When a...

Which of the following is NOT true about bacterial conjugation An F factor drives replication and transfer of a conjugative plasmid The genome of the bacterial chromosome in the donor cells is altered through ectopic recombination Transfer is mediated by a tube-like pilus formed between the adjacent cells Mating cells often break apart before transfer of the entire bacterial chromosome. The transferred DNA can be incorporated in the recipient cell bacterial chromosome via homologous recombination.

What statement about conjugation is true? Group of answer choices A. Hfr strains are more useful for genetic mapping than F+ strains because Hfr strains can conjugate with any strain, while F+ strains can only conjugate with F- strains. B. Hfr strains are more useful for genetic mapping than F+ strains because they recombine transferred genetic material in the recipient cell at a higher rate. C. Hfr strains are more useful for genetic mapping than F+ strains because Hfr strains...

In this problem you will explore how to solve problems involving partial diploid lac operon bacterial strains. Bacterial strains that are "partially diploid" have two copies of the lac operon because they aquired a plasmid carrying just the lac operon region. One copy of the lac operon region is on the recipient's bacterial chromosome, and the other copy is on the F' plasmid that was introduced into the cell by conjugation. Partial diploid genotypes are written with the F' segment...
