Introduction

DNA replication is a process by which new copy of DNA is made. During DNA replication the double stranded DNA gets separated and each strand acts as a template for synthesis of new DNA. The process of replication is done by DNA polymerase and synthesis of DNA occurs in 5' to 3' direction. So,one  DNA strand  will be synthesized continuously and the other strand will be synthesized discontinuously as DNA polymerase can polymerise in 5' to 3' direction. So, the strand of DNA which is synthesized continously is called the leading strand and the other strand that is synthesised discontinuously called lagging strand.

The lagging strand is synthesized discontinuous and the small DNA fragments are called Okazaki fragments. After replication these okazaki fragments are joined by DNA ligase.

Please see the diagram below showing the synthesis of the leading strand.

3 S 3 5

The diagram below illustrates the DNA replication along with all major enzymes involved-

57 leading strane Helicase. DNA polymerase II 5 K3 e Lagging strand 3 DNA Бобурлейове да DNA polymerase 5

Answer-

Lagging strand conatins Okazaki fragments, DNA ligase (to join Okazaki fragments) and lagging strand (as a template). RNA polymerase is not involved in DNA replication. It is involved in RNA synthesis.

Question 25 4 pts Which of the following terms are associated with the discontinuously replicated strand during DNA replicati
