When it comes to decreasing the amount of harm that drugs cause something definitely needs to be done. The video stated that more people were in jail for drug abuse than any other crime which should be an eye-opener that drug use in America is prevalent and needs attention. In my opinion, safe injection sites would be better than what we have now for users and that is jail. As said in the video also jail is not helping users and with a safe injection site, users would be able to get help if they were to overdose and also have someone to talk to about what treatment options are available. Safe injection sites would be able to grasp more users and hopefully get a good amount into rehabilitation, in turn, we would also see drug use decrease, and the number of deaths due to overdoses also decreases. I also believe that politicians should be more open to safe injection sites because the war on drugs has been going on for a long time in America. Politicians should overlook the federal crack house statute that makes it illegal to maintain drug premises because users will be better off using drugs at these sites than on the street dying. I believe this could be a big help in the US for harm reduction, as the injection sites have shown to reduce the amount of harm highly in high-risk areas in Canada.

It’s true that there are many people behind the bars for drug use. This would mean that the laws of the land and the war on drug recklessly throw people for using the drugs while there are many black markets and drug dealers roaming outside the prisons making many people addicts. Although safe house injection is an option, there are many social issues such as, poverty, unemployment and unhealthy lifestyle etc. that lead people to increased exposure to drugs. This would mean it’s not a law and order problem but a social problem which the government needs to acknowledge and offer help to people who use drugs while throwing people who sell or supply them. Approaching drug users with more humanistic way would help them change their ways and lead a better life. This is because of the fact that drug use would make people unproductive and stressed.
