What is job analysis and why are many people that are promoted and do not become effective supervisors?

• Job Analysis is a process to identify and determine in detail the particular job duties and requirements and the relative importance of these duties for a given job. Job Analysis is a process where judgements are made about data collected on a job.
• It includes an analysis of a prospective employee's working conditions, duties, scope of labor, use of equipment, qualifications and interactions with coworkers
• If you miss critical information, you could end up not paying an employee correctly, thus fostering employee discontent or hiring someone who lacks an essential skill needed for performing the job. The job analysis pares the responsibilities of a job down to the core functions necessary to successfully perform the job. The job analysis is useful in providing an overview of the fundamental requirements of any position.
• If appropriate job analysis is not done then the employees performance can become ineffective because without correct job analysis for positions, the organization will lack clear insight on employee roles and therefore it could lead to making the employees unproductive,since they wont be clear,regarding their roles and responsibilties and might be placed in positions that are not their area of expertise.
• The existing employees might possess expertise better suited elsewhere in the organization, and without a job analysis, organizations could miss the opportunity to fill the gap internally. In addition, the lack of a job analysis can cause an overlap in employee roles while some duties remain unfilled.
