Answer #1

Termination: The termination of translation in bacteria occurs when a nonsense codon (UAA, UAG, or UGA) is administered to the growing chain in which there is no charged tRNA that means they do not carry any amino acid.

So, during the addition of the amino acid in the growing chain, the addition of the stop codon that does not encode for any amino acid terminate the formation of the peptide bond. Thus, this halts the peptide formation and the translation process.

Stop codons in bacteria are recognized by RF1 (Release Factor 1) and RF2 (Release Factor 2):

  • RF1 recognizes UAG and UAA codons.
  • RF2 recognizes UGA and UAA codons.

EF-Tu and EF-G are elongation factors. EF-Tu brings aminoacyl-tRNA (charged tRNA) to the ribosomal A-site whereas EF-G acts after the completion of the peptidyl transferase reaction by the EF-Tu.

Answer: the stop amino acid is attached to the growing peptide chain.
