Question

Example Problem1 A 15 kg block is on a ramp which is inclined at 20° above the horizontal. It is connected by a string to a 19 kg mass which hangs over the top edge of the ramp. Assuming that frictional forces may be neglected, (a) what is the magnitude of the acceleration of the 19 kg block? (b) Find the tension of the string. 19 20°

Instructor gave 87 N for the answer for part b and I am not getting that same answer. Thanks.

Two blocks are connected to a string, and the string is hung over a pulley connected to the ceiling, as shown in the figure below. Two blocks, labeled m1 and m2, are connected to a string which is hung over a pulley connected to the ceiling. The pulley is of mass M and radius R. A block labeled m1 hangs suspended off the surface on the left side of the pulley. A block m2 is on the right side of...

Block 1 (20 kg) is pulled by a rope from left to right up a ramp which is inclined 30 degrees from the horizontal. The rope pulls on block 1 with a force of 220 N parallel to the surface of the inclined plane. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the surface equals 0.1. On a sheet of paper, draw the free body diagram for block 1 using the two-subscript notation from class. Assume that the x-axis...

I need help figuring out part B and the exercise question and short response. PRACTICE IT Use the worked example above to help you solve this problem. A block with mass m1 -4.40 kg and a ball with mass m2 7.30 kg are connected by a light string that passes over a frictionless pulley, as shown in figure (a). The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the surface is 0.300. (a) Find the acceleration of the two objects...

A massless rope runs over a frictionless massless pulley which connects the mass M to a 6.5 kg mass (m) that hangs vertically. a) What is the acceleration of the vertical mass if the horizontal surface is frictionless? b) What is the tension in the rope if the horizontal surface is frictionless? Now assume that the horizontal...

Part b) Increase the applied force magnitude to the largest value permitted by the simulation. The words “Block on verge of slipping” should appear. This means that the static frictional force on the aluminum block has reached its physical upper limit. It is not possible, given the intermolecular forces between the atoms in the welds, for the static frictional force to be any larger. We shall label this maximum static frictional force as f→s,max. What is f→s,max on the block...
