In the CRISPR/Cas system of a particular bacterial cell,it is noted that there are six regions. This suggests-

Answer- D. The cell has been infected by six viruses in the past and now has developed a level of protection aginst all of them.

CRISPR is a sort of bacterial immune system. In between the spacer sequences are viral DNA sequences which are used to recognize and bind to invading viral genomes.
CRISPR Cas 9 is actually a smart and efficient mechanism used by bacteria as their immune system. Whenever bacteria are invaded by viral agents, the bacteria capture some viral sequences of some of which are utilised in future whenever the same virus attacks again. RNA segments are produced from the CRISPR sequences that targets the viral sequence and then genome segment gets cleaved by Cas 9.
