answer:

The gut flora:Role in human health and disease and other things, the gut flora initiates normal gastrointestinal function, provides protection from infection, regulates metabolism and comprises more than 75% of our immune system.Impairment of gut flora has been linked to diseases ranging from autism and depression to autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s, inflammatory bowel disease and type-I diabetes.Gut microorganisms benefit the host by collecting the energy from the fermentation of undigested carbohydrates from intestine and the subsequent absorption of short-chain fatty acids. The most important of these fatty acids are butyrates, metabolised by the colonic-epithelium,propionates by the- liver, and acetates by the- muscle tissue.
