Gut microbiome refers to all the living microorganisms specially bacteria present in our gut. They are mainly associated with the digestion of food that we eat.
Gut microbiota is very important because human beings do not have all the enzymes for the digestion of all the complex polymers present in the food we eat. These microorganisms release specific enzymes for the degradation and digestion of these Complex polymers.
They also help to maintain an optimum pH of the got so that other enzymes which are released by our body itself can work easily.
These microbes prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria inside our digestive system by either releasing toxins for competing with them for nutrients.
These microbes also released short chain fatty acids are not synthesized by human body but are important for us.
