1. Explain the concept of implicit leadership theories and discuss why it is difficult to achieve perfect congruence between leaders' and followers' perceptions. (10 marks)

Implicit leadership theory is a cognitive theory of broad term leadership. The implicit theory was introduced by Robert Lord and colleagues.

* When individuals observe a group and are given some sort of information taking note of the performance of the group, the group tends to remember more implicit leadership behavior when the group was told to be successful than when the group was told that they are not successful.

* Implicit leadership works on individual differences and also on cultural differences.

Difficulties in achieving congruence between leaders and followers:

* The perception of every individual varies. in such a condition, it is inevitable to establish mutual harmony between the leader and the follower.

* A leader sees different things, as a collective group but the follower has some other vision that can differ from that of the leader.

* Leader has more responsibility for work and target than the group, but a follower has less responsibility and that makes the congruence process difficult.

* Leader creates path according to his/her analysis, that can be a load for the follower and can deny the harmony.

* There is some self-esteem problem which is termed as ego. that creates difficulty in the congruence process.

Conclusion:

A leader leads the way and creates a path for the followers, it is up to the followers whether they want to walk on that footprint or mere cut his path and disrespect the leadership. Implicit leadership provides a better path for the followers to walk on as it is mainly based on individual cognizance.
