Ans- during group II self-splicing the lariat formation is not dependent on the 3' OH. an intron is removed by a two successive transesterification reactions. the first reaction is triggered by a 2' OH group of the conserved A at the branch site. the 2' OH group act as a nucleophile, to attack the phosphoryl group of the conserved G at 5' splice site. this free 5' end is joined to the free 2' OH group of conserved  A at branch sites and form a lariat.

so option C formation of the lariat intermediate is dependent on the 3' OH is false regarding RNA splicing.

in alternative splicing, splicing can remove coding as well as non-coding sequence.
